Who is Thrive for?
Thrive supports children and young people who are experiencing barriers to accessing mainstream education.
This can include learners with special educational needs and disabilities, social, emotional and mental health needs, anxiety, communication and interaction needs, cognition and learning difficulties, emotional regulation difficulties, attendance difficulties or previous experiences of exclusion.
Every learner is different. We begin by understanding the individual, their strengths, their needs and their aspirations before designing the right educational pathway.

Our small-group environments allow staff to know learners well, identify barriers early and provide targeted support while maintaining high expectations.
Academic progress matters
Alternative provision should not mean reduced ambition. We provide structured academic learning, English and Maths, Functional Skills and accredited programmes where appropriate.
Practical learning with purpose
Practical and vocational learning can provide a powerful route into engagement, confidence, independence and employability.
A pathway to what comes next
Our work is focused on progression. Depending on the individual learner, this may mean reintegration into mainstream or specialist education, progression to college or training, employment or increased independence.

How we work

We begin by understanding the learner and their individual barriers to education. We then build a trusted relationship, create early success and gradually increase academic, social, emotional and independence expectations. Progress is measured throughout the placement and used to plan the learner’s next steps.

Safeguarding is central to everything we do.
We maintain a strong safeguarding culture across all Thrive settings, with trained staff, clear reporting procedures, safer recruitment, risk management and close partnership working with families and relevant professionals.

Success Stories
After spending a significant period of time out of mainstream education, Taylen joined Thrive during the previous academic year. At the beginning of his journey, he had a very negative view of education. Engagement was difficult, and we faced challenges including absconding and refusal to engage with learning.
But Taylen’s story is one of resilience, determination and transformation.
Through consistency, patience and carefully designed interventions, particularly around emotional regulation, Taylen began to understand his emotions, recognise his triggers and develop coping strategies that he could use independently.
Academically, the change was just as significant. Taylen went from refusing education to completing the work put in front of him and working towards age-related expectations by the end of the academic year.
And today, we saw the reward for all that hard work. Taylen had his first day back in mainstream education.
This is about so much more than returning to a classroom. It’s about rebuilding confidence, developing independence, overcoming setbacks and changing the way he sees himself as a learner.
